Fresh seafood to savour

IF FRESH is a flavour then BuBu Restaurant along Tengkat Tong Shin, Kuala Lumpur has got it down pat especially for its seafood dishes. The main ingredients are delivered to its doorstep fresh from the fishing port once every two days.

Affliated with the BuBu Long Beach Resort on Pulau Perhentian that is owned by Ken Cheah, the restaurant gets it shipment of seafood from one of the two major ports in Terengganu in Kuala Besut.

“Our people and van will pick up the seafood selection and deliver it to the restaurant here on the same day. What we get may differ at times depending on what the fishermen bring in,” restaurant partner Gonzalo Ramirez said.

Every day there will be a selection of about six to eight types of fresh seafood awaiting on beds of ice for selection before it is grilled and marinated at the same time with some lemon and vinegar which results in a succulent and flavourful meal.

“The restaurant highlight is the grilled exotic seafood which may include blue marlin, barracuda, sole, baby octopus and squid. We also serve seafood as well as a selection of other food,” Ramirez said.

Many of these dishes cater to the local palate where they like their food a little spicy.

Two such dishes are the prawns sauteed in garlic and chilli flakes as well as the clams that has a touch of cili padi.

“It is interesting to somewhat localise the menu. Some people may be afraid of spicy food but most come to love the dishes and frequently dip breads into the dish’s leftover broth, sauce or oil,” he said, adding that the food was mostly Mediterranean influenced.

Another highlight at BuBu is Le Chateaubriand, a grilled beef tenderloin that is generally about two to three inches thick.

“Generally, beef should be more than half an inch thick so that it does not lose its flavour when cooked. This is because thinly cut beef will lose its juices quicker,” Ramirez explained.

Due to its size, care is needed when cooking the Chateaubriand to avoid overcooking the outside while the inside remains raw.

At BuBu, the meat is roasted and turned occasionally in a charcoal grill and is best served medium-rare for that tender taste of good beef with a pink centre accompanied by fries.

To accompany the meal, Ramirez said the restaurant also has a wine list with “a little bit of everything”.

“We have a good selection of French and Spanish wines and also carry some Argentinian, Chilean, Italian, New Zealand and South African wines,” he said.

To go with the seafood, Gonzalo recommends a sauvignon blanc with low acidity while steaks should be taken with more round wines that are generally Old World with less fruit and more balanced.

He also said that wines from the region of Alsace in France, near the border or Germany, which is made from the Gewürztraminer grape are also usually favoured by Asians due to its fruity-floral bouquet.

“We have a 2008 vintage here. It is quite full bodied, more so than most other white wines. It has a floral scent and exotic lychee-nut flavour and deep-oily texture which makes it irresistable to many palates,” Ramirez said.

Perhentian Island Malaysia (PIC2010 Challenge)

PIC Beckons Tourists To Perhentian Island

KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Crystal-clear seas apart from enchanting environment are among the attractions that draw some 2,000 tourists daily to Pulau Perhentian and its fringing islands.

This writer, who visited the island for the first time, was equally captivated by the peace and tranquility offered by this tropical island in the South China Sea.

The move by the Terengganu government and Tourism Ministry in conserving the island's biodiversity and that of its fringe islands like Redang and Kapas, has resulted in the encouraging number of tourist arrivals.

With only RM70 for a return trip, tourists can board boats from the Kuala Besut jetty to get to Pulau Perhentian Besar or Pulau Perhentian Kecil located some 20 km from the Terengganu coast.

PERHENTIAN ISLAND CHALLENGE 2010

Apart from the natural attractions, the other tourist draw to the island is the Perhentian Island Challenge (PIC) which is a joint effort by the government and private sector. PIC is an event staged to draw tourists particularly water sports enthusiasts to Pulau Perhentian.

PIC began as a team championship in 2004, drawing 103 participants. PIC staged its seventh edition last October.

Some 300 contestants from Malaysia and 11 foreign nations like Kenya, Switzerland and Mexico took part in this year's championship that had two categories - elite and novice.

Contestants in the elite category were required to run across the beach and hills for 20km including one kilometre swim from Pulau Perhentian Kecil to Pulau Perhentian Besar.

For those in the novice category, they need to run 13 km apart from climbing hundreds of steps to the windmill hill at Pulau Perhentian Besar.

MORE CHALLENGING

The winner in this year's elite category is Heidilee Muhammad, 27.

Heidilee, not a new face in the championship, said the race this year was more challenging and tougher.

"This year it was more challenging as the route was longer, furthermore we had to swim ...the foreign competitors were also great," the Sabah-born competitor told Bernama.

The locals were familiar with Heidilee or 'Dino'. His team had won the championship for four consecutive years from 2004 to 2007 before PIC was changed into an individual championship in 2008.

When asked the reason why he came back to the championship without fail, the Royal Malaysia Navy man said: "It is peaceful here, good for vacation...can forget about problems in the city."

Heidilee won the challenge in three hours and 30 minutes. He also won the overall PIC's champion crown and pocketed RM7,000 cash.

Meanwhile PIC director Rob Stott said the objective of making the event more challenging this year was achieved when many contestants had to drop out midway through the championship particularly during the swimming part.

"Out of 10 women who participated in the elite category, only three continued the race, seven of them dropped out during the swimming event. Ten of the men in the elite category also dropped out during the swim.

"It's the reflection of people's ability, we did not make any selection and the task was more than they anticipated," he said.

Stott said PIC's degree of challenges would be increased from year to year in the effort to draw those who like endurance sports and tough challenges.

"For a fact, we know they are those who do not come because they think PIC is too easy for them," he said.

BOON FOR LOCALS

PIC is always a boon for locals as this is the time where they could expect 'a windfall'.

Villager Shafie Zaki, 33, of Kampung Perhentian, said the PIC enabled the locals to earn some extra money before the monsoon season in October until January.

"This is the time where the villagers can set up food stalls and provide boats for rents for the visitors," he said.

The Perhentian Island Challenge is BACK!

The Perhentian Island Challenge (PIC) is a weekend-getaway adventure race that will feature two levels of outdoor-adventure racing on the beautiful island of Pulau Perhentian, Terengganu, Malaysia. Running for the 7th year, the Perhentian Island Challenge 2010 will be held from 15th to 17th October 2010.

PIC is jointly organized by the State Government of Terengganu and managed by PIC Adventure Sdn Bhd. Every year, races vary and have included trail running, orienteering, kayaking, swimming and various obstacle courses. Participants are invited to enjoy and endure various courses in their choice of either Elite or Novice categories. PIC was first held in 2004 with only 103 registered participants. The participants have since increased greatly to over 500 in 2009.

Being more than just an adventure race, PIC introduces participants and visitors to the paradise with its pristine beaches and crystal waters, vast marine life, marine activities and of course local culture and cuisine of the villagers. For the locals, PIC is an annual kampong celebration bringing together the local community with the tourism industry.

Response to Coral Bleaching

Dear all

I am writing to you to try to clarify the current situation regarding site closures in response to the current bleaching event.

When bleaching was first detected some weeks ago, the Department of Marine Parks Malaysia undertook some initial monitoring to assess the severity of the bleaching. Monitoring sites were selected on the basis of degree of bleaching and they initially selected sites which were reported to be badly bleached. At the time this was a sensible step and Reef Check Malaysia supported this monitoring on Perhentian and the other islands off the East coast. This was an effective strategy for tracking the impacts of bleaching on coral reefs and monitoring is on-going.

In considering appropriate management responses to coral bleaching, however, a different approach is required. One of the most widely accepted short term responses is to restrict access to selected coral reef areas. The best areas to select are those which are considered to be most resilient – those coral reef areas which are most likely to be the healthiest AFTER the bleaching is finished, so that they will recover most quickly and can “seed” damaged areas and help them to recover. Please see the attached notes for reference.

Last week, I visited many of the dive operators on the Perhentian islands, together with representatives of DMPM, to seek views on which sites might be most suitable for closure. These consultations indicated that the following sites would be appropriate:

- Tanjung Besi
- D’lagoon
- Batu Layar
- Seabell.

In addition, some areas were identified as being suitable for restricting snorkelling.

These sites were proposed DESPITE the fact that restricting access would cause significant inconvenience to some operators, but a consensus was reached that this short term inconvenience was necessary to protect coral reefs for the long term. As a compromise, and to minimise inconvenience, it was agreed that where possible only PART of the site would be closed, allowing at least some operation at the sites.

The criteria for selecting reefs for MONITORING bleaching are different from the criteria for selecting reefs for CLOSURE to recover from bleaching. However, DMPM did not apply these differing criteria when selecting sites, and unfortunately the list of sites for closure therefore officially remained unchanged from the list of monitoring sites when the list was published in a press release on Wednesday.

The different list of sites in the news report, together with a certain amount of lack of clarity in the news report, has created significant confusion among operators – and customers. This has happened in Redang and Tioman, too. We have dealt with many, many enquiries and complaints over the last couple of days, from dive operators, resorts – and even divers, who are unsure of what is going on.

To confirm the current situation: I heard from the State Director for Terengganu Marine Parks today, who informed me that the formal Cabinet paper now under preparation (the necessary document to confirm the legal closing of areas) will list the sites shown above as the sites to restrict access to as they are identified as the most resilient. Steps will soon be taken to install lines and buoys to mark off relevant areas. To repeat: to my knowledge, where possible only PART of the site will be closed to diving/snorkelling activities.

I can only say that I regret any inconvenience that you have suffered to date. I know some of you have received cancellations, and I have raised that matter with DMPM. However, I do believe that restricting access to some sites will contribute to the recovery of coral reefs around the Perhentian Islands, and that this is an important part of managing reefs for the future. Your continued support and cooperation is essential if the closure programme is to be successful and I hope that we will continue to receive this despite these short term uncertainties and difficulties.

ANNOUNCEMENT – PERHENTIAN ISLAND CHALLENGE 2010

This is the time of the year to prepare for Perhentian Island Challenge 2010 (PIC 2010). Subject to approval from the State Government of Terengganu, PIC 2010 is scheduled to be held in Perhentian Island on 15th – 17th October 2010.

Over the past years we have been guilty of drumming down the event, making it too easy. This year we are going back to our original intentions to make it an endurance event to ‘Discover your Limits’.

This year we will have trail running and some swimming in the sea. Previously the event has been for teams of two, and as we shall dispense with using kayaks, this year will be an individual event.

We shall have categories for:
Elite men
Elite women
Novice men
Novice women

We shall be using trails on the big and small islands and to get from one island to the other we will either swim or use inflatable tubes. Where we have a swimming section then a buoyancy aid will be mandatory.

The event will start at the Kampong and then cross the sea channel to the big island where there will be a run which we anticipate to be 1 hour. Then it’s back to the small island and completes a run round the island with a bit of swimming thrown in. This we expect the front runners to complete in 2 hours.

As usual we will have our tented camp for accommodation for participants where meals will be served.

We are limiting the participants to 500 pax, of which 100 are reserved for the elite category. If we have fewer than 20 entrants for a category that category will be cancelled.

Coral bleaching

Coral bleaching is the whitening of corals, due to stress-induced expulsion or death of their symbiotic, zooxanthellae, or due to the loss of pigmentation within the protozoa. The corals that form the structure of the great reef ecosystems of tropical seas depend upon a symbiotic relationship with unicellular flagellate protozoa, called zooxanthellae, that are photosynthetic and live within their tissues. Zooxanthellae give coral its coloration, with the specific color depending on the particular clade. Under stress, corals may expel their zooxanthellae, which leads to a lighter or completely white appearance, hence the term "bleached".

Once bleaching begins, it tends to continue even without continuing stress. If the coral colony survives the stress period, zooxanthellae often require weeks to months to return to normal density.[3] The new residents may be of a different species. Some species of zooxanthellae and corals are more resistant to stress than other species.

Top dive spots closed due to coral bleaching

ALOR SETAR: Several dive sites at two of the top diving destinations in the world — the Pulau Tioman marine park in Pahang and Pulau Redang marine park in Terengganu — are temporarily off-limits to divers and snorkellers until end-October.

They are among three marine parks — the other being Pulau Payar in Kedah — which are affected by coral bleaching, a phenomenon caused by global warming that has increased sea water temperature by 2°C to between 28°C and 29°C.

Marine Park Department director-general Abd Jamal Mydin said the affected dive sites in Terengganu were Teluk Dalam, Tanjung Tukas Darat, Tanjung Tukas Laut, Teluk Air Tawar, Pulau Tenggol and Teluk Bakau; and in Pahang they were Pulau Chebeh and Batu Malang.

Like some other states in the country, Terengganu is generally fairly hot and humid all year round, averaging from 28ºC to 30ºC in daytime and slightly cooler after sunset Nevertheless, the sea breeze from South China Sea has somehow moderating the humidity in offshore areas while the altitude and lush forest trees and plant has cooled the mountain and rural areas.

Terengganu receives heavy rainfall when the north-east monsoon blows between November and January. Some areas suffer flooding at this time of year and it is inadvisable to visit any of the offshore islands as sea can be very rough. However, in some clear sunny days during the monsoon season, surprisingly east coast is always presented with clear blue sky and cooling wind.

PERHENTIAN ISLAND CHALLENGE 2009

On 8 October, 2009, the Perhentian Island Challenge 2009 Race was launched by YB Wan Abdul Hakim bin Tan Sri Wan Mokhtar, Deputy Chairman of the State Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee, and YBhg. Dato' Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, at the Malaysia Tourism Centre in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

Perhentian Island Challenge (PIC) is an annual adventure race open to the public and staged on the beautiful islands of Perhentian by PIC Adventures Sdn Bhd.

Perhentian Island Challenge 2009 is scheduled from 9th to11th October 2009. This year's event will comprise of various challenges in two categories - Elite and Novice, which will include Running, Swimming, Obstacle Course, Orienteering and various fun and games. This year's event will be different in terms of race format as from last and previous years and the Elite category will be more demanding physically and is expected to attract many serious athletes.

All finishers will be given a certificate of completion with winners and 9 runners up in each category will receive cash and consolation prizes worth in total of RM50,000! As an added gesture to encourage environmental concerns, the race organizers will organize beach clean up sessions with all participants and volunteers of PIC 2009 and the local island community.

PIC was first held in the year 2004 with only 103 registered participants. The participants have since increased greatly to over 400 in 2008. Being more than just an adventure race, PIC introduces participants and visitors to the paradise we know as Perhentian Islands with its pristine beaches and crystal waters, its vast marine life, marine activities and of course local culture and cuisine of the villagers. For the locals, PIC is an annual kampong celebration bringing together the local community with the tourism industry.

Perhentian Island Challenge has grown to such an extent for a small island that this year, the number of participants has been limited to 500. This decision is also conducive to the island's continuing conservation efforts.

For PIC 2009, sponsors include Rip Curl, the Ultimate Surfing Company, as the official sponsor for participants' race T shirts. Beverage giants such as Red Bull, Spritzer Mineral Water, 100 Plus and Sofresh have also once again shown their support in energising, hydrating and quenching our athletes. Not to mention continuous support from PowerBar for their high powered nutrition, Brooks for their super performance footwear, and the UFL team for Suunto and their precision sporting instruments, Coleman for quality outdoor equipment, and Deuter for durable backpacks. It is believed that PIC 2009 will be as successful as ever before.

Perhentian Island Challenge will keep on achieving its most important objectives of promoting the Perhentian Islands as a tourist destination and increase awareness of and promote conservation efforts on the island. Together with the support of the State Tourism authorities and Tourism Malaysia, Perhentian Island is becoming ever more popular for both local and foreign tourists. In addition, the local Government authorities have contributed tremendously ensuring the facilitation of various tourism infrastructures. All these efforts have effectively promoted Perhentian Island as is evident with the ever increasing number of new and repeat tourists.

Turtle Conservation

The Perhentian Islands are home to a significant turtle nesting population. The island was once home to hundreds of nesting Green and Hawksbill turtles but now the islands only receive 300 nests per year. The Department of Fisheries http://www.dof.gov.my, are running a turtle hatchery on the islands to help readdress the declining turtle populations. The Great Marine Project http://www.greatmarineproject.com are complimenting the work done by the Department of Fisheries by protecting one beach on Perhentian Besar and educating visiting tourists. The Great Marine Project run an after-school marine club educating the local school children about marine conservation

Sheer beauty of Pulau Perhentian makes it the destination of tourists. Both the islands have palm-fringed white sandy beaches and turquoise blue sea. One can have a number of activities on its beaches and forests. Swimming and snorkeling are the most popular tourist activities here. One most beaches, the water is shallow with lots of rays, cuttlefish and parrotfish. For diving you could go to northwest Perhentian Kecil where you would find a group of small rocky islets. This is the best place to dive in Perhentian. Apart from these, you could also enjoy activities like camping, canoeing, fishing, jungle trekking, and banana boat riding. As for accommodation, most of it can be found on Perhentian Besar, the larger island. Hotels are usually aimed at budget travelers.

Tourism is the base of economic activity in Perhentian. However, owing to the Islands' protected status, the main tourist activities are minimal in environmental impact: sunbathing, snorkeling

Other than the owners and staff of the numerous cabin-style resorts that dot the islands (many of whom depart for the monsoon season), the islands' only permanent inhabitants live in a small fishing village on Kecil. With the exception of a single mainland-communications tower, there are no structures taller than two storeys.

True eels (Anguilliformes; pronounced /æŋɡwɪləfɒrmiːz/) are an order of fish, which consists of four suborders, 19 families, 110 genera and approximately 600 species. Most eels are predators. The term "eel" is also used for some other similarly shaped fish, such as electric eels and spiny eels, but these are not members of the Anguilliformes order.

"Being far away from the mainland, Pulau Perhentian is rich in coral and marine life which includes stingrays, nudibranchs, black corals, moray eels, turtles and colourful fishes."

The Pulau Perhentian (Perhentian Island) group of islands are the northernmost islands off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. There are two main islands -- Pulau Perhentian Besar (Perhentian Besar Island) and Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Perhentian Kecil Island) -- plus several large rocky outcrops to the northeast namely Pulau Tokong Kemudi Barat (Tokong Kemudi Barat Island), Pulau Dara Kecil (Dara Kecil Island), Pulau Tokong Kemudi (Tokong Kemudi Island), Pulau Rawa (Rawa Island), Pulau Burung (Burong Island) and Pulau Serenggeh (Serenggeh Island).

Typical of most tropical islands, the two main islands are heavily forested and ringed with white sandy beaches. Being far away from the mainland, Pulau Perhentian, which literally means 'Stopover Island', is rich in coral and marine life which includes stingrays, nudibranchs, black corals, moray eels and colourful fishes. Turtles come up to lay eggs between April and September.

The main village is situated on the southeast coast of Pulau Perhentian Kecil and the locals are a friendly and hospitable lot. Accommodation is mainly aimed at budget travellers and is available on both the main islands as well as some of the smaller islands. New resorts with better facilities are currently being constructed.
Perhentian is one of the best diving spots in Malaysia, and is also excellent for snorkelling and jungle trekking. Its laid-back atmosphere makes it the perfect getaway.

For snorkellers, BUBU RESORT has a Sea Sports Center to cater to all needs including guided scheduled snorkeling trips daily to designated spots. Perhentian Island is a designated Marine Park and therefore there are very strict rules governing all Sea Sports and related environmental issues in the entire vicinity.

Hawksbill Turtles

Turtle Beach is where hawksbill turtles come up to nest. The conservatory located there then hatched the eggs and releases the hatchlings after a few days in the hopes that some will survive to replenish the dwindling turtle population.

The hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) is a critically endangered sea turtle belonging to the family Cheloniidae. It is the only species in its genus. The species has a worldwide distribution, with Atlantic and Pacific subspecies. Eretmochelys imbricata imbricata is the Atlantic subspecies, while Eretmochelys imbricata bissa is found in the Indo-Pacific region

I was of similar feeling and I was surprised when it was proposed that the DAP hqrs break be held at Pulau Perhentian as I expected the area to be unhabitable because of monster monsoon season at this period.
But not to be a wet blanket I went along, despite grave reservations.
I was very surprised that there was no storm whatsoever. The sea was so calm and clear that it was like sheet of glass.
I am told that until the last few years, Pulau Perhentian was virtually a closed area because of public perceptions that monsoon in the East Coast begins in October.
But surprise of suprises, it is not so. According to the Bubu Long Beach Resort (Pulau Perhentian Kechil) operations manager, Zaidon Ismail, the climate calendar has changed. Maybe it is because of the global climate change.
The Bubu Long Beach Resort live-wire, Along Bubu, tells me that the climate is so changed that the authorities concerned is confident of organising a Perhentian Island Challenge involving kayaking, jungle tracking and sea sports challenges and this will be held on 17 to 19 October.
This has been a hairs-down experience. I went snorkelling. I also went up to the wind mill. Many ask why I have choosen Pulau Perhentian Kecil and not Perhentian Besar or Pulau Redang.
It was not a conscious choice but I did not regret the final destination. It was unforgettable experience with great friends Zaidon and Along Bubu.

We recently spent ten days at the Bubu long beach resort. It was the final days of our one month long honeymoon in Asia, and it was the perfect ending!

The resort is ideally located directly on the beautiful beach. All rooms have balconies or terraces facing the sea, providing a stunning view of the beach and surrounding islands (especially from the 3rd floor).

Rooms are clean and cozy, not that big but still comfortable enough. Bathrooms are newly renovated and fresh, and the dayly cleaning is satisfactory. The only complaints we had about the room is that it was missing a refrigirator to store cold drinks.

Resort has two restaurants, one for package buffet guest and one alacarte restuarant. We really like to recomend eating in the alacarte restaurant. The first nights we explored other options on the beach, but we soon discovered that it was worth to pay a little extra to dine at Bubu. The menu is a mix of Thai and Western dishes, all excellent tasting and served with style. We were impressed with every meal! Besides from the excellent food, this is also one of the few restaurants on the beach wich has beer and wine on the menu.

All staff at the resort are very friendly and helpful. If you are going to Perhentian Kecil, we can definitely recomend Bubu. It is not a five star resort, but it is still worth the extra money compared to neighbouring chalets!

Good Hotel, Best option in Long Beach

After going through many reviews of hotels in both islands, Besar and Kecil, I decided to stay at Bubu Long Beach resort. I was going to Perhentians with my mom and we wanted a safe choice.

My options were Tuna Bay, Perhentian Island Resort and Bubu. I was a bit confused reading some reviews so I’ll try to put some light J

- Bubu is the best hotel in Long Beach. Rooms are clean, not big but fair enough, you have your king bed, closet, table, chair, clean attached bathroom with hot water and, in my case, a terrace with nice views of the beach. Although rooms don’t have safety box, one of the drawers has a locker and you can keep there your personal belongings and big camera equipment. Wireless is available for free.

- The hotel is right on the beach, located in one of the corners of Long Beach. Breakfast was included on the price, with Malaysian and Western options. I found breakfast pretty good.

- I would recommend not taking a full package as lunch and dinner were provided in a different area than the restaurant, with typical buffet food such as pasta and beef. The restaurant had a la carte menu. However, we never had dinner or lunch at the hotel as we found it extremely expensive compared to other nice restaurants on the beach which had fish bbq, Malayan food, etc.

- If you want to take the snorkeling day trip, try to book somewhere else. Hotel trip was 80 RM, from 11 am to 1 pm, and included just 3 places. However, we booked a day trip at the Moonlight cafe, right beside Bubu and paid 40 RM, for a full day trip which took us to many places, including a marvelous beach on the other island.

- In terms of beach quality, Long Beach is very nice but I would say that Perhentian Island Resort (on the other island) had the greatest beach. Tuna Bay hotel looked really nice but honestly I think the beach was so so, with a couple of horrible buildings right beside. So, if you base your options according to the beach, I would suggest Perhentian Island Resort.

- In terms of room quality, Bubu’s was nice. Don’t expect luxury but the room was nice, very clean, the hotel was very quiet and we really enjoyed our stay. I would say that the hotel is a bit overpriced but management was very nice, everything was in order, and we had no complaints. Anyway, I think that for the price, a couple of things could be improved such as providing toothbrush for example. Anyway, don't expect Thai luxury standards!

- We booked transport with the hotel. A van was waiting for us at Kota Bahru airport. Expect one hour ride to Kuala Besut and then about 30 minutes speed boat. Bear in mind the last boat from the hotel to Kuala Besut departs at 4 pm! Our speedboat seemed to be in much better condition than other water taxis.

I'm just back from Perhentian where i stayed at BuBu Resort. To be honest, do not expect any luxury amenities, rather you'd expect basic yet clean rooms, with a pretty bathroom. Most importantly it was clean, very clean.

I knew what i was getting into when i booked the hotel, so i was not disappointed at all. Obviously if you expect 4-5 star luxuries, then you're in the wrong place, Redang is a better choice.

But what i was very satisfied with was the quality & taste of the food. There is nothing fanciful about the food, but it was very tasty & for the price you pay, it's worthwhile. Tea time is my fave & the BBQ seafood every alternate night is really good. Breakfast was good with choices of bread, porridge, pancakes, eggs & noodles.

For RM 470 per pax i tin this is a worthwhile deal. And the staffs were really friendly, sending us off when we had to leave.

I'll definetely go back again

Rooms,We had deluxe rooms with balcony and side sea view which is very enjoyful.The rooms are comfy ,5 pillows bathrobe bubu, the bathroom is as clean as new toilet included. hot water.only water pump is little bit noisy in the garden only when night is silent and everybody sleeping. so 4/5 pts
Cleanliness.bathroom, toilets, cutlery and glasses always neat and shiny 5/5 pts
Service. Staff is very smiley, very helpful since our arrival to every moment of the day, friendly in every occasions, great with kids especially very young ones.Dont be afraid to bring your babies here you wil find every thing you need for them around and the staff will always arrange you either a romantic diner candle lighted or find a reliable babysitter.6/5 pts above expectations
Location. on long beach best spot calm enough close from everything . straight next to the sea, restaurant over the beach. Umbrellas and sun bathing bench on the beach for customers. open air massage service available.
Food. Western Thai asian differents cooks, all are great. Wine is very good for those we tried ( i m french) and italian expresso is tasteful.Barbecue every 2 days.
Value. only for those who seek comfort and dont mind pay a bit overpriced resort to get the best resort , service , hospitality, food around the island.we had rooms 302 & 303.2nd floor sea side view.
we read the bad comments from this page before, but we found nothing matching the bad comments, except noise that will be end by 2300. what we got to know is that the non expected bad rooms were standard room, on ground floor. we were lucky we didnt experienced it in deluxe room.
NB.Under the resort , a family of harmless huge varans ( dragons komodo ) that can be spotted in the backyard behind the restaurant.good pictures to do. free wifi with good connection.
